Early Years
At Marsden Infant and Nursery School we provide Early Years provision for children in nursery aged 3 to 4 years and Reception for children aged 4 to 5 years.
We recognise that every child is unique. We understand that children have different personalities, develop in individual ways and at varying rates. We want all our children to be happy, independent, self-motivated, critical thinkers and risk-takers.
At Marsden Infant and Nursery we plan and deliver our curriculum following the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework which is broken down into 7 key areas.
EYFS teachers plan a curriculum through adult-led activities and purposeful play. Our aim is to develop children's knowledge, vocabulary and key skills through interesting and engaging activities. We deliver a holistic child-centred curriculum which allow children to grow and develop links between their learning experiences.
We use both statutory and non-statutory guidance documents to support practitioners classroom practise and pedagogy

Characteristics of Effective Learning
The characteristics of effective learning are an essential element of the early years foundation stage and focus on the processes on how children learn as opposed to the outcome. The Early Years Foundation framework focuses on three characteristics. These are;
Playing and Exploring - children investigate and experience things and 'have a go'.
Active Learning - children concentrate and keep on trying if the encounter difficulties and enjoy achievements
Creating and Thinking Critically - children develop their own ideas, make links between ideas and develop strategies for doing things.
