Spiritual, Moral, Social, Cultural Development

Spiritual, Moral, Social & Cultural (SMSC) development and the promotion of fundamental British values are an intrinsic part of our ethos at Marsden Infant and Nursery School. They serve as the overarching umbrella that encompasses individual personal development, encouraging our children to think about the kind of people we aspire to be and the kind of world we aspire to create. It is an essential part of preparing our children to learn, achieve, and live full active lives as part of their unique community, ensuring they understand the importance of respect and leave us fully prepared for life in modern Britain.

At Marsden Infant and Nursery School we promote SMSC and British Values through our broad, integrated and enriched curriculum, through our school and learning values and through our strong links with parents and the community.

The development of SMSC and British Values is an intrinsic part of our ethos and school culture at Marsden Infant and Nursery School. Driven by our vision, "Learning together, Learning for Life," this development is crucial because it nurtures the whole child, preparing them for the next step on their educational journey and life in modern Britain. It allows our children to build an understanding of the wider world, develop deep empathy, and embrace their individual role within our vibrant local community. Through this foundation, they learn to thrive in a rapidly changing society as happy, healthy, and respectful individuals who know right from wrong, approach life with curiosity, and celebrate what makes us unique.
At Marsden Infant and Nursery School, we actively embed these values into our daily learning, assemblies, and school life to explore and develop:
  • Our Core Values: Fostering a deep sense of how to Belong, Nurture, Inspire and Succeed.
  • Spiritual Awareness: Encouraging children to ask big questions about themselves, others, and the wider world.
  • High Standards of Personal Behaviour: Nurturing a calm, purposeful environment built on a positive growth mindset and resilience.
  • Respect and Tolerance: Developing a positive, inclusive attitude towards people of all faiths, beliefs, backgrounds, and abilities.
  • Community and Traditions: Cultivating a strong connection to our unique local village community and its local heritage.
  • Cultural Diversity: Promoting a true appreciation of the richness of different global cultures and viewpoints
