Protected Characteristics

At Marsden Infant and Nursery School, we are committed to ensuring that every child and adult feels safe, respected and valued. Under the Equality Act 2010, everyone in Britain is protected from discrimination, harassment and victimisation because of the following nine protected characteristics:
- Age
- Disability
- Gender reassignment
- Race (including colour, nationality and ethnic or national origins)
- Religion or belief
- Marriage or civil partnership
- Sex
- Sexual orientation
- Pregnancy and maternity
We do not teach all characteristics in detail in every year group. Instead, we introduce them gradually and appropriately so that children build age‑appropriate understanding during their time with us.
At Marsden Infant and Nursery School, these values are promoted through:
- Our caring school ethos
- Our core values: Belong, Inspire, Nurture, Succeed
- Our behaviour policy
- Positive role-modelling from all adults
- Strong communication and partnership with parents and carers
- Assemblies
- PSHE sessions taught through SCARF
- RE and RSHE lessons
- Pupil voice opportunities
- Educational visits and visitors
- Pupil Parliament
- Extra‑curricular clubs, community projects and charity work
Together, these help us create an inclusive environment where every child can thrive.
